American

So yesterday I became an American Citizen, 9/09/09. The naturalization ceremony was held in San Francisco with 1,330 people taking the oath of allegiance, all representing 109 countries. It was pretty rad-I got teary eyed a couple times. I could not help but think of my Father, Nils-Olov throughout the ceremony. I felt overwhelming pride for him-so daring to move from Sweden in 1973, 4 children and wife in tow, speaking only text-book English. Although Sweden is a beautiful and very lovely country, it is homogenous and does not provide the same economic opportunity that the U.S. can provide. He made it happen for my family with his unique determination and the stubbornness Swedes are known for, hurah Papa and hurah me!
